Pre-school materials

English
The Gambia English
- These books for primary and junior secondary level in the Gambia meet the criteria of
the Gambia syllabus for English. The lower levels are highly illustrated in colour and
focus on oral work. Book 7 uses traditional methods and the new communicative approach to
develop and improve pupils' oral, reading and writing skills and give them a firm
foundation in grammar. Accompanied by supportive Teacher's Books, the course provides:
- controlled conversation practice
- integration of listening, speaking, reading and writing
- relevant and practical explanations of formal grammar

Maths
The Gambia Mathematics - Written by
experienced and practising maths teachers, specialists and curriculum advisers, the
material has been extensively trialled and tested in schools. Each chapter contains
carefully graded exercises, with simplified language and explanations where appropriate.
The emphasis throughout is to enable pupils to progress through the text themselves as
well as with the assistance of the teacher. Exercises focus on encouraging the practical
investigation of different mathematical topics, often with everyday examples. Numerical
work is also carefully greaded to ensure full understanding by the pupils.
Science
The Gambia Science - This course has been
developed to incorporate a modern and up-to-date approach to the teaching and learning of
science. Written by leading science education practitioners and advisers, the text
carefully develops a whole range of science skills within a framework of core concept
areas. It features a broad range of practical activities, full colour illustrations and
photographs, detailed and clear explanations and discussion points and review questions at
the end of each chapter.
'O' Level Chemistry - This is a textbook which covers all the
requirements of local examinations as well as the Cambridge 'O' level syllabus. It is
available as a West African edition.
Biology - One of the most popular school certificate and 'O'
level textbooks because of its comprehensive coverage and its modern enquiry approach. The

The Gambia Agriculture - This course is aimed at students at Junior
Secondary level. Written and developed by experienced and practising agricultural

The Gambia Social and Environmental Studies
- This series of books covers the Social and Environmental Studies syllabus for grades

Population and Family Life Education
This
new course in Population and Family Life Education (POL/FLE) describes population growth,
how population affects the environment, and how it creates nutrition and health problems
for the family. It provides information about what we can do to solve these problems and
improve the situation, talks about how boys and girls grow into adults and considers how
they should behave towards each other at home and in the school. It also helps prepare
them for the world of work.
Religion
Islamic Foundation Course for the
Gambia - This course aims to help Gambian children to understand the
basic areas in Islam and at the same time introduce them to the practices of religion. The
emphasis is on learning by doing, including puzzles, crosswords, colouring and toy making.
It is a lively course and is useful to parents as well as children.

Geography
Regional Geography of West Africa Revised
